Dickson, TN– Efforts have commenced in preparation for legislation to be filed in the Tennessee General Assembly to improve road safety and to protect manufacturing jobs across the state, an initiative backed by State Representative Mary Littleton (R- Dickson) and Zochem.
Representative Littleton, who serves as Chair of the House Children and Family Affairs Subcommittee, is championing legislation aimed at expanding the use of French Process zinc oxide in tire manufacturing- citing improved road safety and domestic job preservation as just some of the many benefits for Tennesseans. This legislation will also improve the State’s ability to make more informed purchasing decisions when procuring tires for the state’s many vehicles.
“Protecting Tennessee families starts with common-sense steps to improve safety on our roads,” said Rep. Mary Littleton. “This legislation not only enhances road safety for children and adults alike- it supports quality jobs with reputable, responsible manufacturers right here in Dickson and throughout Tennessee. I’m proud to support Zochem’s mission and proud that Tennessee is leading in both safety and economic growth.”
Zochem, North America’s largest dedicated producer of French Process zinc oxide, is headquartered in Dickson, Tennessee, in the heart of Representative Littleton’s district. The company’s French Process zinc oxide is a critical component in a wide range of applications including tires, rubber goods, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, animal feed, electronics, paints and coatings, oil additives and emerging alternative batteries.
“This legislation will be a meaningful step forward,” said President and CEO of Zochem Mohit Sharma. “We’re grateful to Representative Littleton for recognizing that safer roads and stronger communities go hand in hand. Tires manufactured with French Process zinc oxide also have a lower rolling resistance which directly leads to a lower emission environment, yet another of the many benefits that will result from this important legislation. By encouraging the use of tires made with the highest quality French Process zinc oxide, we’re helping to ensure that Tennessee remains a national leader in both innovation and job creation.”
The proposed legislation marks a major victory for both Tennessee manufacturers and families paving the way for a safer, more secure, and economically resilient future.
Representative Mary Littleton represents House District 78, which includes Cheatham and part of Dickson Counties.
